| Anmerkungen |
The Bank of Chinan was a puppet institution established under Japanese occupation of northern China, operating under the direction of the Reorganized National Government based in Nanjing. Its notes were issued as occupying currency across Shandong Province, where they circulated alongside — and were intended to displace — Nationalist and Communist-backed scrip. The 1942 date places this note in the middle of sustained inflation driven by Japanese military expenditure and deliberate currency warfare.
The S-prefix in the Pick reference reflects its listing in the Specialized volume rather than the main catalog — a classification that aligns with the broader treatment of Japanese-sponsored regional bank issues as quasi-military rather than orthodox commercial paper.
