The Bank of Central China (华中银行) was established in 1945 by the Chinese Communist Party to serve the liberated zones of the Huai River region, operating as one of several regional Communist banks running parallel currency systems ahead of the eventual consolidation under the People's Bank of China in December 1948. Notes from this bank circulated in contested territory where Nationalist and Communist currencies overlapped, and acceptance was often enforced rather than voluntary.
