Issued to mark the 800th anniversary of Jochi (Joshy), eldest son of Genghis Khan and progenitor of the Golden Horde, whose exact parentage was disputed even within the Mongol court — a rumor that may have cost him his life. Jochi died in 1227, weeks before his father, under circumstances that remain unresolved; some sources suggest assassination ordered by Genghis Khan himself. Kazakhstan's claim to his legacy is territorial: the western steppe lands he was granted as ulus became the geographic core of what is now Kazakhstan.
