Ordabasy FC, based in Shymkent, is the oldest football club in Kazakhstan, founded in 1949 during the Soviet period as a works team before eventually competing in the top tier of post-independence Kazakhstani football. The National Bank of Kazakhstan has issued a broader series of commemorative collector coins honoring domestic sports clubs, of which this is one entry.
