Reverse description The central field features a boldly rendered profile view of a Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), depicted in fine naturalistic detail with clearly incised scales, fins, and tail. The legend 'BANK OF UGANDA' arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination '200 SHILLINGS' is inscribed in large characters below the fish, with the date of issue appearing at the bottom of the field. A continuous inner beaded border frames the entire design.

Additional information

Uganda's shift to nickel-plated steel for this denomination was driven by the same cost pressures that pushed central banks across sub-Saharan Africa away from brass and cupronickel during the 2000s — raw material prices made the older compositions increasingly uneconomical for high-circulation coins. The magnetic property is simply the functional consequence of the steel core.
