| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing bust of President Aden Abdullah Osman Daar, the first President of the Somali Republic, depicted wearing a suit, tie, and eyeglasses, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The bilingual legend 'REPUBBLICA SOMALA' in Latin and 'الجمهورية الصومالية' in Arabic script arc around the upper periphery, flanking the portrait on either side. The commemorative dates '1960 - 1965' appear along the lower border, marking the fifth anniversary of Somali independence. An engraver's monogram is visible at the lower left of the portrait. The design reflects the academic medallic style characteristic of the Zecca di Roma. |
