Issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which was established in 1950 under the Monetary Law Act — itself drafted with technical assistance from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The Bank opened on 28 August 1950 with John Exter serving as its first Governor, on loan from the Fed.
