Punjab National Bank was one of the first Indian commercial banks to issue rupee-denominated travellers cheques in the decades following nationalisation, when the Reserve Bank of India actively encouraged domestic banking instruments to reduce reliance on foreign-issued cheques. Specimen examples like this one were produced specifically for staff training and branch familiarisation — they were never meant to circulate and carry no monetary liability.
