Additional information

Issued to mark the bicentenary of the Vadtal Swaminarayan temple, founded in 1824 by Sahajanand Swami — known to followers as Swaminarayan himself — this coin joins a long line of Indian commemoratives honoring religious institutions, a practice the government has pursued with increasing frequency since the 1990s. The Vadtal temple holds particular doctrinal significance as one of the two administrative seats established under the Laxmi Narayan Dev Gadi, giving it authority over a substantial portion of the Swaminarayan Sampraday worldwide.
