The Nepal Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1947, is the oldest organized trade body in the country, and this commemorative issue marks one of its anniversaries under Gyanendra's first reign — a period that lasted only nine months before Parliament was reinstated and he was stripped of executive powers. Gyanendra would later dissolve Parliament entirely in 2005, ruling by decree until a popular uprising forced his retreat in 2006.
.500 fineness was a deliberate economy for commemorative silver issues of this type in Nepal, keeping production costs down on pieces intended more for gifting within trade circles than for numismatic distribution.
