Obverse description The Imperial Arms of Brazil occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with an armillary sphere beneath a radiating five-pointed star, encircled by a ring of nineteen stars representing the provinces of the Empire, all surmounted by the Imperial Crown. The shield is flanked by branches of coffee (to the left) and tobacco (to the right), tied at the base with a ribbon bow and a small star. The legend IMPERIO DO BRAZIL arcs around the upper periphery, while the date 1886, flanked by two five-pointed stars, appears in the lower exergue. The coin exhibits the natural wood grain of the planchet beneath the struck design, consistent with its nature as a pattern piece.
