A crowned 'G.P.' countermark, applied on behalf of King Luís I in 1887 to revalue the coin for circulation in the Azores, is prominently struck within the design. The surrounding legend reads IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, the traditional motto of the Order of Christ. |
