Reverse description The reverse of the host coin features the Cross of the Military Order of Christ — a plain cross with a smaller cross superimposed — flanked by floral or foliate ornaments at each corner. A crowned 'G.P.' countermark, applied on behalf of King Luís I in 1887 to revalue the coin for circulation in the Azores, is prominently struck within the design. The surrounding legend reads IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, the traditional motto of the Order of Christ.
