| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents an elaborate quartered cross dividing the field into four segments, each containing alternating castles and rampant lions, all enclosed within a raised octolobe or eightfold cusped border. The surrounding circular legend reads 'HISPANIARUM REX' with the date '1725' distributed around the periphery. The milled edge and bold relief of the cross typify the early 18th-century Spanish milled coinage style struck at the Seville mint under Philip V. |

Portugal's solution to chronic small-change shortages in Angola was blunt and practical: confiscate Spanish 2 reales circulating in the colony, punch a crowned shield into the surface, and redeem them as 200 réis. The Carlos I countermark program of 1895 applied this to coins that were already decades old, some bearing dates reaching back into the early nineteenth century. The host coin's origin is irrelevant to the type — only the punch matters to classification.
Gomes Ca 05 is among the more straightforward of the Angolan countermark series, but strike quality on the host planchet varies enormously depending on the condition of the underlying Spanish piece at the time of countermarking.
