Opmerkingen

Angola's provincial administration issued this note locally through the Imprensa Nacional de Loanda — one of the very few cases in Portuguese colonial Africa where a paper currency was both designed and printed within the colony itself, rather than imported from Lisbon. The "Bronze" denomination series was introduced to substitute for the chronic shortage of small copper coinage in circulation, a problem that plagued Angolan commerce throughout the late nineteenth century.

Locally printed colonial notes of this period are disproportionately rare in any grade. The paper stock available in Luanda was inferior to metropolitan standards, and the humid coastal climate accelerated deterioration.
