Kibbutz scrip of this type circulated internally as a substitute currency during the British Mandate period, when individual kibbutzim managed their own closed economies and members had no need — or right — to hold personal cash. Alonim, founded in 1938 in the Lower Galilee, issued prutah-denominated tokens and notes to cover canteen purchases and small personal allocations within the community fence.
The prutah denomination itself is telling: it mirrors the official Israeli currency unit introduced in 1949, suggesting this note postdates independence, though many kibbutzim continued scrip systems well into the 1950s regardless of national monetary unification.
