| Obverse lettering | ELIZABETH II·D·G·REG·FID·DEF·200 POUNDS· J.C (Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith) |
| Reverse description | The reverse presents a modern interpretation of William Wyon's celebrated 1839 Una and the Lion design, originally created for the gold Five Pounds of Queen Victoria. Lady Una, representing Queen Victoria, is depicted standing and leading a crowned lion, symbolising the strength of the British Empire guided by a virtuous sovereign — a motif drawn from Edmund Spenser's allegorical epic poem The Faerie Queene. The figures are rendered in exquisite high relief, with Una shown in flowing robes holding a small shield and guiding the lion with a chain. The Latin inscription DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS arcs around the design, with the date MMXIX and the engraver's signature W.WYON R.A. present in the field. The overall composition reflects the grandeur of the Victorian original while benefiting from contemporary die-cutting and proof finishing techniques. |
