| Reverse description | The reverse reproduces William Dyce's iconic quartered arms design from the original 1847 Victoria Gothic Crown. The shield is divided into four quarters, displaying the three passant guardant lions of England (repeated in quarters one and four), the rampant lion of Scotland (quarter two), and the harp of Ireland (quarter three), all set within an ornate cruciform frame adorned with elaborate Gothic interlace and floral decoration. The Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE encircles the central shield. The outer legend TUEATUR UNITA DEUS and ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII appear in blackletter script around the border, the latter retaining the original Victorian date of 1847 as a tribute to the prototype design. |
