Opmerkingen

Alsfeld's 1922 Pfennig notgeld belongs to the second wave of municipal emergency currency — by this point German cities had been issuing their own paper for several years, and the Stadtverwaltung was essentially filling a void left by the chronic shortage of small-denomination Reichsbank coinage. Scharffe Druckereien in Wetzlar handled a considerable volume of Hessian municipal notgeld during this period, and their output tends to be technically consistent if unspectacular.

The DeNG reference places this within a seven-variant series, suggesting Alsfeld issued across multiple dates or design states — collectors should confirm the specific variant against the suffix numeral.
