| Obverse description | The obverse is divided into three main vignette zones against a light guilloche underprint. At upper centre, a large intaglio vignette shows a full-rigged sailing vessel under steam on open seas. To the lower left, a portrait bust of a gentleman in early 19th-century attire is rendered in fine intaglio engraving. To the lower right, an allegorical female figure — likely representing Commerce or Justice — is seated with a staff and shield, accompanied by a child figure at her feet. The denomination "200" appears in large numerals at both upper corners, with the bank title "EL BANCO DE LA PROVINCIA DE BUENOS AIRES" arching across the top, and the date "1º ENERO DE 1869" inscribed centrally below. A "MUESTRA" overprint appears at the bottom centre. |
