A central vignette presents a three-masted sailing vessel at sea rendered in fine intaglio engraving. To the lower left, a portrait medallion shows a male figure in early 19th-century attire, while to the right a classical allegorical female figure is seated beside an anchor. 备注

The Banco de la Província de Buenos Aires occupied a peculiar position in Argentine monetary history — it was simultaneously a provincial institution and, for much of the nineteenth century, the de facto issuer of the currency that actually circulated across the country. By 1869, its notes were trading at a substantial discount against gold, the product of decades of inconvertibility stretching back to the 1826 suspension forced by the war with Brazil.

The American Bank Note Company printed this series from its New York facilities during a period when Buenos Aires province and the Argentine Confederation were still settling their political and financial relationship following the 1859–1861 conflicts. ABNC held the contract for most of the province's higher-denomination issues through this period.

PS#522 is among the scarcer survivors in the series — the 200 Pesos Fuertes denomination saw limited everyday use at that face value.
