Mexico's 200 peso denomination has carried particular political weight since the series was redesigned to feature pre-Columbian imagery and historical figures outside the usual canon of independence heroes. The 2019 paper issue on Crane's Endurance substrate — a cotton-synthetic blend introduced to extend note longevity in high-humidity circulation environments — was produced in-house at the Banco de México's own printing works, one of the few central banks in Latin America to maintain full sovereign printing capacity.
Endurance paper was adopted partly in response to documented accelerated wear in Mexico City's dense cash economy, where high-denomination notes see more handling than comparable markets.
