200 New Sheqalim Zalman Shazar

The second series of New Sheqel notes, introduced from 1985 onward, commemorated Zionist intellectual and political figures rather than the ancient or biblical imagery that had dominated earlier Israeli currency. Zalman Shazar — third president of the State of Israel and a prominent Labor movement historian — had died in 1974, well before the sheqel reform, making this a posthumous tribute issued nearly two decades after his death.

A print run of just over twelve million is relatively modest for a high-denomination note, reflecting its limited everyday role in circulation during the early 1990s. Moshe Pereg and Dror Ben-Dov were both staff engravers at the time, working within Israel's own production infrastructure rather than contracting to foreign security printers.
