| Reverse description | Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaisho) arranged in the four cardinal positions around the central square perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 當 (equals/worth) above, 貳 (two) to the right, 百 (hundred) to the left, and 文 (mon) below, composing the legend 當貳百文 (tō nihyaku-mon, 'Worth 200 Mon'). The characters are boldly cast in high relief against a granular field, consistent with the casting technique employed throughout this issue. A wide, plain rim encircles the design, and the square central hole is cleanly defined. The composition follows the conventional reading order of Edo-period cast coinage, presenting denomination information in the traditional four-character format. |
