200 Markkaa

Finland's gold coinage of the 1920s was a direct consequence of the country's monetary reorganization following independence in 1917 and the catastrophic civil war of 1918. The 200 Markkaa denomination was authorized as part of an effort to establish credible hard-currency reserves and restore confidence in the Finnish markka after years of wartime inflation tied to the Russian ruble system Finland had only recently escaped.

Struck at the Helsinki Mint, the 1926 issue saw limited production — the entire Finnish gold series of this period was minted in small quantities and saw negligible circulation, meaning survivors overwhelmingly grade mint state.
