| Obverse description | The obverse displays the three towers of San Marino — the Guaita, Cesta, and Montale — rising from a crenellated fortified wall at centre, each surmounted by an ostrich feather finial. The legend REPVBBLICA DI SAN MARINO arcs along the upper periphery in large capital letters, while the motto LIBERTAS appears on a cartouche at the base of the towers. A small spray of laurel and oak branches decorates the lower field beneath the cartouche. |

| Additional information |
San Marino issued a run of themed 200 Lire pieces through the 1990s as the Italian lira's days were already numbered — the Maastricht Treaty had been signed the previous year, and the monetary union that would eventually abolish the lira entirely was effectively in motion. These small republic issues circulated legally throughout Italy by bilateral agreement, though in practice most were immediately pulled from circulation by collectors.
