| Anmerkungen |
Banco Lariano was a regional bank based in Como, in Lombardy, and this 200 Lire note belongs to a peculiar chapter in Italian monetary history. During the coin shortage of the 1970s, private banks, municipalities, and even businesses were permitted to issue small-denomination emergency paper — technically fiduciary tokens rather than legal tender. The Banca d'Italia tolerated rather than sanctioned these issues, and their legal standing was never entirely clean.
The MICR encoding on this note reflects an attempt to make these regional issues machine-readable and therefore compatible with banking clearance systems — an unusual technical ambition for what was essentially a stopgap instrument.
