Opmerkingen

The Banca Popolare Udinese 200 Lire note belongs to the remarkable Italian miniassegni phenomenon — a stopgap born from the chronic small-coin shortage that plagued Italy through the 1970s. With coins hoarded, melted down, or simply unavailable, banks, retailers, and cooperatives began issuing small-denomination paper tokens to make change. The Banca d'Italia tolerated rather than endorsed the practice.

Hundreds of institutions issued their own versions, making systematic collection genuinely difficult. The Udinese example is among the regionally specific issues from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia banking sector, a part of Italy where local cooperative banking had unusually deep roots.
