Romania's Banca Națională has issued commemorative polymer and paper notes periodically since the early 2000s, but a 200 Lei denomination tied to an Orthodox church — Sanislau, a village in Satu Mare County near the Hungarian border — is an unusual choice. Regional religious heritage as a subject for circulating currency sits outside the BNR's typical commemorative program, which has historically favored national figures and landmark anniversaries.
Dani Crișan is a Bucharest-based graphic designer with credits on several BNR commemorative issues. Whether this note circulates at face value or functions primarily as a collector release will determine its long-term availability in used grades.
