| 裏面の説明 | The central field features the front face of a Early Christian marble sarcophagus lid from the Manastirine cemetery complex at Solin, dated to the second decade of the 4th century and now housed in the Archaeological Museum in Split. The relief depicts the Good Shepherd within the central aedicule, flanked by portrait busts of the deceased spouses in lateral niches. The circular legend 'SPALATUM' arcs along the upper periphery, while the commemorative dates '295. – 1995.' arc along the lower periphery, referencing the 1700th anniversary of Diocletian's Palace. The designer's monogram 'KH' for Kažimir Hraste appears in the lower field. |

Issued to mark the 1700th anniversary of Diocletian's Palace, the fortified complex built by the emperor Diocletian as his retirement residence beginning around 295 AD. The palace walls never fell out of use — medieval Split grew up inside them, and the structure remains inhabited to this day, one of the best-preserved late Roman monuments in existence.
Croatia's independence was barely four years old when this coin was struck, with the Homeland War still technically ongoing until August 1995.
