Obverse description Full-length standing effigy of Carl Linnaeus rendered after the 1774 portrait by J. E. Rehn, depicted in period dress within a botanical setting. The figure is framed by Linnaea borealis, the delicate twin-flowered plant named in his honour, which trails along the periphery of the field. The legend CAROLUS * LINNÆUS appears at the upper border, with the commemorative dates 1707 * 2007 marking the tercentenary of his birth. The engraver's initials AWJ are incused at the lower edge of the design.
