| Aanvullende informatie |
John of Luxembourg married Elizabeth of Bohemia in 1310 under circumstances that were entirely political: the Přemyslid male line had collapsed with the murder of Wenceslaus III in 1306, and the Bohemian nobility needed a credible foreign claimant who could be controlled. John was fourteen years old at the wedding. He spent most of his subsequent reign abroad, earning the nickname "the blind king" after losing his sight entirely by the 1340s — he died charging into battle at Crécy in 1346, his reins reportedly tied to those of his knights.
