Josef Božek, a Prague-based engineer of Polish origin, demonstrated his steam-powered vehicle on the Stromovka promenade in 1815 — making it one of the earliest self-propelled road vehicles demonstrated in Central Europe. The event drew such crowds that a second public run was arranged, after which the project appears to have collapsed financially and the vehicle vanished from the record.
The Czech National Bank issued this coin to mark the 200th anniversary of that demonstration.
