Additional information

Rudolf II moved his imperial court from Vienna to Prague in 1583, a decision that made Bohemia the administrative heart of the Habsburg Empire for decades. His court drew astronomers Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler, both of whom conducted significant work there — Kepler completed his first two laws of planetary motion in Prague. The Czech National Bank's commemorative series marking figures tied to Bohemian history placed Rudolf among monarchs and scholars rather than purely political figures, which reflects the unusual character of his reign.

KM#126 was issued in a mintage of 14,800 pieces.
