Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a bold, stylized depiction of the NATO compass-rose emblem rendered in an angular, geometric modernist style, with a prominent vertical axis and four directional points occupying the central field. The dates 1949 and 1999, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, are inscribed horizontally across the centre of the design flanking the vertical element. The circular legend ORGANIZACE SEVEROATLANTICKÉ SMLOUVY curves around the upper and lower periphery of the field, reading continuously around the rim.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the Czech Republic's accession to NATO on March 12, 1999 — the same year the alliance conducted its first offensive military operation, the bombing campaign over Yugoslavia, which put the newly admitted member in the awkward position of endorsing airstrikes just weeks after joining. The Czech Republic entered alongside Hungary and Poland, the first former Warsaw Pact states admitted to the alliance.
