Jan Brokoff was one of the key figures in the Baroque sculptural transformation of Prague, though he has long lived in the shadow of his more celebrated son Ferdinand Maxmilián. This 2018 issue marks the 350th anniversary of Jan's birth. The Czech National Bank has maintained a consistent commemorative silver program since the early 1990s, issuing coins tied to Czech artistic and scientific figures with enough regularity that the series itself has become a collector reference point.
Jan Brokoff trained under a Dresden master before settling in Bohemia, where commissions from Jesuit patrons shaped much of his output.
