Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel — born in Prague in 1677 to a family of Italian stonemasons — developed what historians now call "Baroque Gothic," a hybrid architectural language he applied to the reconstruction of Bohemian monasteries damaged during the Thirty Years' War. His Žďár nad Sázavou pilgrimage church, completed in 1722, is a UNESCO World Heritage site built on a five-pointed star plan of near-obsessive geometric precision. The Czech National Bank has issued commemorative 200-korun pieces for decades to mark figures overlooked by broader European cultural memory.
