The 2009 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships were held in Liberec — the first time the Czech Republic hosted the event, and only the second time any Czech city had done so, Czechoslovakia having hosted in the same city back in 1983. The Czech National Bank's commemorative series for major sporting events tends toward limited collector distribution rather than genuine circulation, and this issue follows that pattern.
