Issued to mark the centenary of electric tram service in Bratislava, which began in 1895 — making the Slovak capital one of the earlier Central European cities to electrify its urban transit network. The line predates Slovak statehood by decades, having been built under Hungarian administration when Bratislava was still called Pozsony.
The .750 fineness is characteristic of Slovak commemorative issues from this period, when NBS was still establishing its minting program following the 1993 dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
