The Czech Ice Hockey Association celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008, tracing its founding to 1908 when Bohemia was still part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Czech hockey's international standing by the centenary was considerable — the national team had won six World Championship titles between 1996 and 2006 alone, a run that made the country one of the dominant forces in the sport during that decade.
