Additional information

Juraj Fándly was an eighteenth-century Slovak Catholic priest whose agricultural and anti-clerical writings got him into persistent trouble with church authorities — his 1783 tract promoting rational farming methods was condemned, and his later satirical work targeting monks was banned outright. The National Bank of Slovakia issued this coin on the 250th anniversary of his birth, positioning him as a figure of Slovak Enlightenment thought rather than strictly religious history.

The .750 fineness is characteristic of Slovak commemorative silver from this period, lighter than the .925 standard used by many contemporaries.
