Additional information

Struck to mark the American Bicentennial, this issue came about through a specific political arrangement: the Netherlands Antilles maintained a close relationship with the United States through Dutch Caribbean trade networks, and several Caribbean nations issued commemorative gold specifically targeting the American collector market in 1976. The series was a deliberate revenue exercise for the issuing territory as much as anything else.

Mintage was tightly limited, and the pieces were sold primarily through numismatic channels rather than entering circulation at face value — 200 Gulden being a sum wildly impractical for everyday use in the islands.
