Paraguay's independence from Spain in 1811 was declared not through armed revolt but via a bloodless coup against the local governor, making it one of the quieter separations in Latin American history. The bicentenary in 2011 prompted a wave of commemorative issues across the region, most of them contractually struck by foreign mints — this piece almost certainly among them, as Paraguay has no domestic mint of its own.
