Reverse description The central field bears the denomination 200 FRANCS in bold Latin numerals and letters, with the Arabic equivalent فرنك (franc) inscribed directly below in flowing script. The legend MAROC arcs prominently across the upper field, flanked by ornamental rosettes and a dotted border. EMPIRE to the left and CHERIFIEN to the right appear in large Latin letters along the inner periphery, while Arabic dynastic inscriptions encircle the entire design in the outer border. The dual dating AN 1953 and 1372 (Hijri) appears in the lower central field, with the engraver's signature J. BAINAULT visible in small letters.

Additional information

This is an essai — a trial strike produced for approval rather than circulation — issued the same year French colonial authorities exiled Sultan Mohammed V to Madagascar. He was deposed in August 1953 and replaced by the French-backed Mohammed Ben Arafa, making any coinage bearing his name from that year politically charged almost immediately after striking. The essai never progressed to a circulating issue.
