| Obverse description | The national arms of Benin occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant; the upper portion of the shield bears a bull's head in chief, while the four quarters contain a castle, a star, a palm tree, and a sailing vessel respectively. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in the legend. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 200 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in two lines across the lower field. |

Benin issued a wave of novelty collector pieces in the mid-1990s under the West African CFA franc framework, most with no serious circulation intent. This Iguanodon piece belongs to that run — produced primarily for the international numismatic market rather than domestic commerce, at a face value that bore little relationship to production cost.
Iguanodon itself was the second dinosaur ever formally described, named by Gideon Mantell in 1825 from Sussex fossils — a fact that has nothing to do with Benin's economic history, which is precisely the point.
