A tall-masted caravel under sail is depicted in the upper right field, referencing the Age of Discovery central to his masterwork 'Os Lusíadas'. In the lower left field, a second vessel appears near the horizon beneath a setting sun. The birth and death years of the poet, 1524 and 1580, flank the Portuguese armillary sphere mintmark at the base of the design, with the issue year 2024 inscribed to the right. The cursive legend 'Luís Vaz de Camões' arcs along the left rim. |
