Issued as part of France's broader "Aventures de la Terre" series, this coin commemorated the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. Monnaie de Paris used a concave-convex striking technique — the coin's dish-shaped surfaces create a slight three-dimensional lunar effect, a format the Paris mint was actively refining during this period and would continue developing into its more sophisticated bimetallic and colorized issues of the following decade.
