| Beschrijving voorzijde | A stylized effigy of Marianne, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, is depicted in high relief at the center, her hair adorned with stars and her gaze directed forward. The central portrait is set within a circular inner field, framed by an elaborate geometric composition of faceted planes that evoke Gothic architectural motifs. The outer legend EUROPE GOTHIQUE arcs along the upper rim, while RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves along the lower portion in Latin script. The date 2020 appears at the lower left of the inner circle, and a small Euro symbol is positioned at the base of the composition. A cornucopia privy mark of the Monnaie de Paris is visible near the lower right of the inner field. |

Part of the Monnaie de Paris "Cathédrales de France" series, this issue draws on a tradition of French architectural coinage that the mint has revisited repeatedly since the 1990s. Gothic cathedral building in France reached its apex between roughly 1140 and 1350, a period bracketed by the construction at Saint-Denis under Abbot Suger and the catastrophic collapse of the choir vault at Beauvais — the tallest Gothic choir ever attempted, never completed to plan.
The 2020 release coincided, without apparent planning, with the ongoing restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris following the April 2019 fire.
