The papal motto MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO is inscribed in a curved legend along the lower portion of the field. The legend FRANCISCVS PP. ANNO X MMXXII arcs along the upper rim, denoting the tenth year of the pontificate. The engravers' signatures A.CICCONI and AM.INC. appear in small lettering in the lower exergue.
