Reverse description Central design features a quadrilobe (quatre-foil) cartouche enclosing a bold equal-armed cross, with the castles of Castile and lions of León disposed in the four quarters formed by the cross, directly replicating the reverse type of the original 1588 Madrid mint 4 Escudos of Philip II. Four pellets are symmetrically placed at the cardinal points outside the cartouche within the inner field. The circular legend +HISPANIARVM · REX · 2018 · runs around the periphery in Latin majuscules, separated by ornamental stops, and the entire design is bordered by a beaded circle echoing the style of the hammered gold coinage of the Spanish Empire.
